BEAUTY IS SILENT

I sit here looking out this window tonight,
My vision not hindered by total darkness
as the moon above me sitting whole about the stars
casts dancing shadows amidst slumbering trees.
Footprints embedded in powdery snow drifts
tell the presence of one person's lone journey
yet when the snow falls again they will be buried
bringing with it the unduplicated beauty of solitude.
But as all of creation this too sends a summons,
for every magnificent thing yearns to be viewed
if only for a moment so as to never be forgotten.

MY INNERMOST THOUGHTS

upon a chance meeting
or influenced by me
waiting to see you
for freedom of tongue

my questions seem shallow
inquisitive and bold
to hear of your answers
to calm down my fears

love flowing from me
unbridled to you
in return I ask not
for your happiness is mine

forces do keep us
in two separate worlds
yet not far apart
it's too far for me

my thoughts of you often
bring tears to my eyes
for deep in my heart
each other loves thee

we both may endure
this short time apart
but the rest of our lives
I wish to spend with you

DAWN TO DUSK

the flowering bud's gentle sway
with warming breezes from eastern skies
giving way to a golden yellow dawn
a brisk chill of exciting pleasure
feathered wings resting upon the soil
a skip of a tossed pebble
sudden spurt of energy skyward
as numerous rings move outward
to move back into stillness
an evening disturbed by light above
thunderous roars and moisture follow
replenishing that which all return
the white smile sits in calm darkness
guard of all as motion briefly rests

CLANDESTINE OPPORTUNITY

can we not be as one
so I propose a toast,
as heaven comes to earth
moistened lips connect,
a shaken heart unwinds
collecting rings of gold.

can we not be as one
glasses raised in praise,
as we feast upon riches
your eyes speak of truths,
persistence of the mind
breaking chains of steel.

can we not be as one
words of wisdom spoken,
chilled air whistles about
your voice need not be heard,
chosen precious moments
melting walls of stone.

can we not be as one
sweet juices swallowed,
heaven surrounds us again
our hands forever clasped,
delicate bodies entwined
creating worlds of love.

WATER TO ICE

a star's glimmering sparkle
reflecting on a frozen sheet of ice,
the pond's laughing daytime bustle
halted by quickly falling temperatures
and a darkening evening sky,
during the night's darkest moments
two lone figures stop near shore
prepare to glide on blades of steel
about the ice moving hand in hand,
running through the wooded hills
a little creature stops before exiting its' safety
an arm's length of snow covered open space
all clear for a mad dash towards the center
too quick a stop causes a sliding ball of fur,
who slams into a snowy bank on the pond's edge.

As I lie here beneath the nakedness
of this budding tree,
with the suns golden rays penetrating
the darkness of my lids,
I can see the flickering shadows
of commotion caused by the winds,
savage, untamed wind
rustling between all open spaces,
and at that moment
as the wind temporarily ceases,
my thoughts turn towards your own
long and slender limbs.

I am mesmerized....stunned!
as to the thoughts of pleasure
of seeing shadows caused by the
sways of your own supple body.
I am wholly captivated.

MY REVELATIONS

I can see from the depths of the water
through hundreds of feet of murky darkness,
there are sixteen flames burning brightly
I can see the changes within the cross.
you were upset with me for unknown reasons
now returning if I so desire to accept
I left this world once by the hands of medicine
then at my own doing I fought to stay again
so now I ask you to show me my way in life.

LIFE AT DAWN IN WOODED PARKS

the whirl of golden yellow life
fallen from limbs of swaying bark,
rising from behind a range of elevations
bring new life to hibernating seed,
white powder of dampness is out of season
day has broken while with it comes warmth,
creatures of earth awaken from darkness.....

upon the bark are buds of green growth
reaching out toward heaven's realm
bringing forth a new generation,
time of loving since ingredients are present,
chills of rushing liquid from clouds above
leave pools for quenching desires for life,
mother and child stopped for drink
to ponder their mystery of life.

4-30-87

like the snow I am
cold, frozen, and wet
yet never any two alike
I fall in winter all day
at night in cold for fall and spring
a rising warm sun and I am gone
grass and flowers you are,
green, beautiful, and colorful
again never any two alike
you need warmth and sunlight
by night your growth slows
for heat and water you require
I am wet but too cold
so from snow and warmth
I can become rain
and your roots grow in soil
you become the earth
together we become the essentials
the necessities for all life
for without one the other can't exist

10-14-88

under the colors
cast a prism of air
through the clouds
dashing between rain drops
beginning from sunlight
ends upon the earth
by the small pond
in my own back yard

night soon follows
damp ground turning cold
each blade of grass
covered with frost
a dark horizon
with specks of light
traveling quite quickly
yet still very slow

the darkness gives way
to a daily rising star
warming the ground
and waking all creatures
a busy new day
spent before it is over
with time on one side
and love on the other.

There will be more to come.
